In this conversation with Dr. Kristin Colberg and Dr. Ormond Rush, both members of the synod's theological commission and participants in the writing of the Document for the Continental Stage of the Synod (DCS), learn about their understanding of synodality, the resistance it’s faced, their experiences of participating in this process, and what they anticipate for the gathering of bishops in Rome in October 2023.
About our speakers:
Kristin Colberg is associate professor of theology at Saint John's University and School of Theology and the College of Saint Benedict, and the sole U.S. member on theological commission for the Synod on Synodality. She received her doctorate at the University of Notre Dame in systematic theology. She is the author of Vatican I and Vatican II: Councils in the Living Tradition (Liturgical Press, 2016) and the co-editor of Speaking Truth in Love, a festschrift in honor of Cardinal Walter Kasper (Liturgical Press, 2014). She is currently working on a book on synodality. Professor Colberg also serves as a member of the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC).
Ormond Rush is a priest of the diocese of Townsville, Australia, with a doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University in Rome. He currently lectures at St Paul's Theological College, Australian Catholic University, Brisbane Campus. His publications include The Vision of Vatican II: Its Fundamental Principles (Liturgical Press, 2019), Still Interpreting Vatican II: Some Hermeneutical Principles (Paulist Press, 2004) and The Eyes of Faith: The Sense of the Faithful and the Church's Reception of Revelation (The Catholic University of America Press, 2009).
